Spring 2021 Workshops

The Ohio Partnership for Excellence in Paraprofessional Preparation (OPEPP) is pleased to offer workshops to assist school districts in more effectively using paraprofessional services to support student learning. Paraprofessionals, teacher-para teams, and other district, school, and agency personnel are invited to participate. All workshops offer a combination of synchronous as well as asynchronous learning opportunities. Contact hours are provided for participants who attend Zoom sessions and complete workshop assignments.

Registration: Registration information for each workshop is provided below. Registration for each workshop closes 5 business days before the workshop begins.

Cost: Workshops are provided at no charge to OPEPP partner districts. For non-partner districts, the individual registration fee is $70/per person per workshop. For groups of two or more participants per district, the fee is $50/per person per workshop.

Paraprofessionals Who Work as Interveners

Workshop Description:

Interveners are support professionals who provide consistent one-to-one support to a student with combined hearing-vision loss throughout the instructional day. This workshop is designed to equip the practicing paraprofessional with the knowledge and skills needed to provide support to children with dual sensory impairment, better enabling them to meet their learning goals.

Zoom Session 1 – Synchronous: Feb 1, 2021, 10 – 11:00 am
Week 2 – Asynchronous: Feb 8 – 12, 2021
Week 3 – Asynchronous: Feb 15 – 19, 2021
Zoom Session 2 – Synchronous: Feb 22, 2021, 10 – 11:00 am

Participants who attend both Zoom sessions and complete all workshop assignments receive 10 contact hours for participation.

Workshop Description:

This workshop is designed to support all educational staff and teams in understanding the sensory needs of their learners. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the sensory system and will practice observing and documenting learners’ progress.

OPEPP’s Behavior Management Professional Development Series—Part 1

Workshop Description:

This four-session “flipped classroom” professional development (PD) series explores four topics relating to behavior management that paraprofessionals and teachers often ask about. Topics include:

  • What is Behavior?
  • Behavior Management Practices and Strategies
  • Systems of Behavior Education
  • Using Data to Change Behavior

What’s “flipped classroom” PD? It’s series of training sessions that are organized in the following way: Participants view videos and do readings and activities prior to a face-to-face Zoom session. Then they use the Zoom session to debrief. The readings and activities are provided for this PD series using a learning management system called “Moodle.”

Zoom Session 1: Synchronous: March 16, 2021, 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Zoom Session 2: Synchronous: March 30, 2021, 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Zoom Session 3: Synchronous: April 13, 2021, 5:00 – 6:00 pm
Zoom Session 4: Synchronous: April 27, 2021, 5:00 – 6:00 pm

Participants who attend all four Zoom sessions and complete all workshop assignments receive 15 contact hours for participation.
