Consultant Spotlight: Judy Hassel

Every school district is unique—and Judy Hassel knows that creating meaningful, lasting support for paraprofessionals takes more than a “one-size-fits-all” solution. As a veteran educator, former leader with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, and OPEPP consultant, Judy brings decades of experience helping schools strengthen the systems that help paraprofessionals thrive.

Judy works side by side with district teams, listening first, asking questions, and guiding conversations that uncover what really works for their staff and students. Through educator panels, collaborative planning sessions, and intentional coaching, she helps schools design strategies that clarify para roles, improve onboarding, and build stronger collaboration between teachers and paraprofessionals.

Her work has made a difference across Ohio. In districts like Northwest Local and Springfield City Schools, Judy has helped elevate para voices, create clearer expectations for new hires, and build support structures that stick—even when leadership changes.

“When we listen to the people doing the work, we uncover not just the challenges—but the solutions,” Judy says. “My role is to walk alongside districts as they create systems that fit their culture and truly support their paraprofessionals.”

By focusing on local context and district-driven solutions, Judy ensures that the improvements made today last for years to come—giving paraprofessionals the confidence, respect, and resources they need to make an even bigger impact in Ohio’s classrooms
