Unit 3 ~ Scenario/Notes: Revisit Scenario

Let's revisit

Let’s revisit the opening scenario and see what Mr. Patel had to say regarding Tina and Janine’s challenges regarding collaboration.

Mr. Patel: “Maybe this is something we need to address more collaboratively. Ms. Harper, I know you’re stretched thin with all your students, but we can’t afford to work in isolation. Tina, you’re doing your best, but we need to make sure the modifications aren’t just to simplify the lesson—they should align with the same learning objectives. I can help facilitate a planning time with all of us, if we can schedule it. We need to be on the same page, for the students’ sake.”

Ms. Harper (pauses and then nods): “I can see that. We’ve been so focused on getting through the day that I haven’t really taken the time to communicate with you, Tina. I guess I’ve just always assumed that you’d be able to figure out the modifications on your own. But if we’re going to be effective, we need to work together more intentionally.”

Tina (softly): “I just want to be sure I’m doing what’s best for the kids. I don’t want them to feel left behind, but I also don’t want to hold them back from learning the same things as their peers.”

Ms. Harper (smiling slightly): “Okay, I get it. Let’s try to meet more regularly and go over the lesson plans together. That way, we’ll all know how to modify the content without just simplifying it. It’s going to take some work, but I think we can figure this out.”

Mr. Patel: “Great. I’ll work on getting a time for us to meet and talk through the goals for the week. We all want the best for the students, so let’s make sure we’re all working toward the same outcomes.”

Tina feels relieved that she has a clearer path forward, and Janine acknowledges the need for collaboration. While the road ahead is still uncertain, the foundation for a more coordinated effort has been laid.
