Back to: Module: Helping Students Read
This activity will take you through the steps required to design a sample reading lesson. Work on this by yourself or together with a small group of colleagues. This activity will take time, so don’t feel like you have to do it all at once.
Step 1: Review the nine parts of a lesson plan above.
Step 2: Create a document on your computer or in a workbook to build your own nine-part plan.
Step 3: Use this module as a reference to find appropriate activities and strategies for teaching a lesson on one particular skill relating to phonemic awareness or decoding. Pay special attention to strategies that will allow you to use this lesson with a diverse group of students.
Step 4: Fill in your sample lesson plan with the activities and strategies you’ve researched.
Step 5: Discuss your lesson plan with your instructional team or other colleagues.
