How We Help

Advance Career Pathways & Growth Opportunities

Connecting Paraprofessionals to Pathways for Advancing Their Careers

Paraprofessionals deserve clear, supported pathways toward long-term career growth. OPEPP helps districts and educational agencies design structured opportunities that value paraprofessionals’ roles as a professional career path—promoting advancement, leadership development, and long-term retention.

OPEPP aligns its professional learning with credentialing pathways and nationally recognized competencies from the Council for Exceptional Children. This ensures paraprofessionals gain skills that are recognized statewide and nationally.

Credential Pathway for Paraeducators

OPEPP helps districts create clear, supportive pathways for individuals pursuing careers in education—whether they are current paraprofessionals, high school students exploring the field, or staff members preparing for next steps.

This includes helping districts promote and prepare candidates for the Paraprofessional Assessment and other credentialing routes that lead to employment as a paraprofessional and, over time, to roles such as intervention specialist or other certified educational positions.

Through our guidance, tools, and partnership approach, OPEPP supports districts as they design sustainable systems that:

  • Develop structured career-growth pathways that help paraprofessionals advance within the field
  • Provide preparation and supports for the Paraprofessional Assessment and related credentials
  • Offer leadership and skill-building opportunities that enhance paraprofessionals’ contributions on instructional teams
  • Strengthen long-term recruitment and retention by helping paras feel prepared, valued, and invested

By building these intentional pathways, districts can nurture a strong future educator workforce while empowering paraprofessionals to grow their skills, confidence, and career options and OPEPP is here to help with the process.
