Fall Workshops

The Ohio Partnership for Excellence in Paraprofessional Preparation (OPEPP) is pleased to offer workshops to assist school districts in more effectively using paraprofessional services to support student learning. Paraprofessionals, teacher-para teams, and other district, school, and agency personnel are invited to participate. All workshops offer a combination of synchronous as well as asynchronous learning opportunities. Contact hours are provided for participants who attend Zoom sessions and complete workshop assignments.

Registration: Registration information for each workshop is provided below. Registration for each workshop closes 5 business days before the workshop begins.

Cost: Workshops are provided at no charge to OPEPP partner districts. For non-partner districts, the individual registration fee is $70/per person per workshop. For groups of two or more participants per district, the fee is $50/per person per workshop. Payment for non-partner districts closes 3 business days before workshops begin. Helping with Instruction

Workshop Description:

This workshop is designed for teacher-paraprofessional teams who seek to understand how paraprofessionals can expand their role on a team with responsibility for providing instruction. Based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning, this workshop offers guidance about how paraprofessionals can collaborate with a supervising teacher and other members of an instructional team to help students learn. The readings and activities are provided for this PD series using a learning management system called “Moodle.”

Participants will:

  • identify five phases of the instructional cycle;
  • understand Universal Design for Learning principles and their impact on student learning;
  • apply instructional scaffolding strategies;
  • describe learning targets; and
  • identify ways to improve students’ study strategies and test-taking skills.

Zoom Session 1: Synchronous: October 5, 2021, 4:30 – 5:30 pm ET
Zoom Session 2: Synchronous: November 9, 2021, 4:30 – 5:30 pm ET

Participants who attend the Zoom session and complete all workshop assignments receive 15 contact hours for participation.

Developing Cultural Competency

Developing Cultural Competency

Workshop Description:

Developing the knowledge and practicing the skills of cultural competency enable all district personnel to relate to people and groups who are culturally diverse, which is critical for the success of all learners. This workshop is designed for all school and district staff as it addresses basic knowledge and skills that are foundational to developing cultural competency. The readings and activities are provided for this PD series using a learning management system called “Moodle.”

Participants will:

  • learn about the meaning of culture and cultural competency;
  • explore how their cultural identity informs their cultural perspective and influences their relationships with others; and
  • learn how practicing cultural competency skills can positively impact student learning and student behavior.

Zoom Session 2: Synchronous: November 30, 2021, 3:30 – 4:30 pm ET

Participants who attend the Zoom session and complete all workshop assignments receive 10 contact hours for participation.
