Progressing on the Parapro Pathway​

These modules equip paraeducators with foundational knowledge to support K–12 students. Each unit focuses on reading, writing, or math concepts and includes opportunities to apply them in classroom scenarios. Aligned with Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) paraeducator competencies, the modules build the knowledge and skills needed to effectively serve students across content areas.

CEC Paraeducator Competencies

Core Competency Area 5: Instructional Supports and Strategies

S5.1 Demonstrate proficiency in academics including oral and written communication, literacy, and mathematical skills appropriate to the job assignment.

S5.4 Support the use of effective and culturally responsive instructional strategies in literacy and mathematics as directed by the instructional team.

S5.5 Review and reinforce learning activities, essential concepts, and modified content as directed by the instructional team.

Course Objectives
  • Identify ways trauma-informed practices contribute to on-going efforts to promote safe and productive learning environments for all students.
  • Learn classroom practices that use trauma-informed practice as a foundation for academic instruction.
  • Explain how literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading works to off-set damaging effects of trauma.
  • Identify the ways leadership teams (DLTs, BLTs, and TBTs) can tie trauma-informed practice into overall district improvement efforts.
